Tanzania-Evening Saturday October 15th 18:00 o'clock

We are very happy that four of the St. Therese sisters came to Munich last Tuesday the October 4th. They will stay here untill Monday, October 17th. During the last days we had the chance to get to know better four wonderful persons, but also to learn more about life in Tanzania and projects of the sisters.

Furthermore we took time to show the sisters our city and life. We talked and discussed present and future cooperation and itensified our tanzanian-german-friendship.

We want to invite the general public, members and friends ouf our association to a Tanzania-Evening that will take place next Saturday, October 15th at our parish.

You will have the chance to get in contact with the sisters from Tanzania and to learn more about their life and our work on site.

It would give us a great pleasure, to welcome you on the following Saturday at Farnweg 5 in München, Großhadern at 6PM.

Visit of the St. Therese sisters in September 2011 The visit of the St. Therese sisters back in 2005 is still a marvelous and very alive memory to us. This is why we are very happy to be able to welcome four sisters from Tanzania this year again.

We have invited the sisters to come to Munich for two to three weeks at the beginning of September 2011. The trip is a chance for us to give the sisters the well-deserved recognition and appreciation for their sacrificing work. The sister who only receive a symbolic salary will therefore finally get their Asante. During this time we want to facilitate a personal encounter between the sisters and our friends and sponsors. On the other hand, we would like to work on the development of already existing projects but also engage in the planning of new projects.

To make these personal encounters possible, we will visit the Derksen Gymnasium in Großhadern, which has invited the sisters to a common prayer with pupils and parents, as well as to take part of some of their lessons to make the interplay of cultures possible. Also, we planned other trips for the sisters in and around Munich, for examle to the “Zugspitze”. Moreover, we would like to organise two services for the sisters in the church of St. Canisius in addition to a Tanzanian evening in the parish-hall of St. Canisius. Everyone who is interested, is cordially invited. Unfortunately we cannot yet tell you the exact dates now, but we will publish them on this homepage as soon as possible.

According to our motto “Effective assistance“, we have always been very careful that your donations have the greatest impact in Tanzania. As a consequence, we would like to finance the visit of the sisters not by means of our existing donation pool, but through separate donations. 30th anniversary of AIDS and UN summit on HIV-AIDS in New York

Report on the 30th anniversary of AIDS as well as on the UN summit on HIV-AIDS in New York On the 5th of June 2011, the immunodeficiency disorder AIDS turned 30 years. What a bad day! An article, which was published on the 05th of June 1981, spoke about five young men for the first time, who felt ill with a rare pneumonia. At that time nobody knew that the cause of the disease was a still unknown virus.

During the last thirty years this virus has infected more than 60 million people and more than 25 million have died subsequently. Nowadays, about 7000 people become infected on a daily basis, including 1000 children. Developing countries are particularly affected. 75% of people who have fallen victim to AIDS live in Africa. This includes Tanzania in general and the Kagera region - where our association is involved - in particular.

Today, it is possible to slow down the progress of the disease by means of medication, but there is still no cure for AIDS. That is why AIDS is a very threatening and current topic also after thirty years. It is for this reason that different countries from all over the world met at the United Nations summit in New York on the 10th of June 2011. This High-level meeting on AIDS brought together 3,000 participants, including 30 heads of State and government. The joint declaration contains clear and measurable targets such as the aim to get 15 million people onto life-saving antiretroviral treatment by 2015 (in 2010 there were 6.6 million). In addition, by 2015 no further child shall be born with HIV.

These goals of the UN are ambitious because an amount of 22 – 24 billions US dollars (about 16 billion Euros) must be invested until 2015 to defeat AIDS. These targets can only be achieved with concrete and quick measures in the present.

Altogether, we hope that the summit of 2011 will provide the foundation for finally getting rid of HIV-AIDS. Besides these aims, it is important to keep in mind, that every day new people are affected by AIDS and every day people die as a result of their disease. Therefore it is important to care for those, who need our help the most – the AIDS orphans.

Sein großes Engagement für klassische Musik und unseren Verein zeichnet Thomas Friese immer wieder aufs Neue aus. So veranstaltet er am Samstag, den 16. April, um 19:30 Uhr in der Pfarrkirche St. Canisius ein Benefizkonzert mit dem Werk Die sieben letzten Worte unseres Erlösers am Kreuze von Joseph Haydn. Wie immer ist der Eintritt frei; es wird jedoch um Spenden für Solidarität mit Waisen gebeten.
